Whole 30 Prepping Adventure

Weekend of Whole 30 PrepPing

I am a planner. That is likely one of my favorite things of any project is the planning phase. So for the Whole 30, prepping is the exciting part. It’s like getting all the little details together for a vacation or fun trip. I also know it's part of what will bring the success I'm looking for over the next 30 days.

So sure, maybe planning to drastically (well not that drastically) change your eating habits isn’t exactly a vacation but I’m hoping for my body it will become one. I mean, the whole point of the Whole 30 is to give your body the whole foods it needs minus the things that make it get all inflamed so it can rest, reset, and recover. And boy do I need that!

After Whole 30 Prepping

So, I found the Whole 30 Plan on Thursday, read the book on Friday and did a massive clean-up of my pantry and fridge to get ready to put some healthy foods in its place. It’s been a while since the refrigerator got a good clean out anyway, so it was a good excuse. What I wasn’t counting on is it taking me 3 hours but still, the possibilities and excitement of what I was about to undertake made it not so bad. Except for my poor back.

Now while I would have loved to throw out my “non-compliant” foods, I do still have someone in my household that isn’t joining me on this journey so some of that got left behind. Ya know, cause I’m nice like that! And while a bit of a distraction on the plan, thankfully there aren’t any huge trigger foods that will derail me on those tough days when I’m ready to eat the spackling off the walls.

Then I got to restock everything with healthy foods. I’m using their meal planning service called Real Plans (subscribe here). You can drag and drop some meals into the calendar and then it makes a shopping list for you. I have been using emeals so it’s similar but doesn’t guarantee that the recipes are Whole 30 compliant.

In addition to a complete refrigerator and freezer purge and scrub down, I got into our pantry and all our cabinets. While Whole 30 doesn’t mention this, it’s great having an excuse to get rid of old foods, expired things and half eaten food from 2 years ago. YUCK! Honestly, they need to add it to the “perks” list.

Prep Day Whole 30

Sunday was my prep day. Now, you don’t have to do this but when you work all day, it’s hard to cook lunch. So, I prepped lunch for the entire week and then got a snack item together for those times I might get the munchies. I wanted to do my breakfast meals as well but I was getting tired, so I figured I just had two different ones to do, I’ll just do them on a couple of mornings.

In looking back, I’m not sure why my prep day took so long. The recipes weren’t complicated but, for some reason, this took me a good couple of hours. But I can see making this enjoyable with some earbuds and music. Thankfully, my excitement for the program kept me motivated enough to get 8 meals and a weeks worth of snack ready to go!

And that was that! The fridge is full of ready-to-eat meals and snacks to get me through the week!
